cease and desist
and the second bestexplanation i found about $oftware patent$
"software patents" ....just google it
"Multimedia is a patent minefield" ....just google it...
you will find many worthwhile projects will die for thease "rules"
european patent laws passed..... but how?
WORK_RTF.EXE an example of;
planned obsolecance, monopoly, and why the world sucks
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
= = = SO tiny in size and simple on the face of it, = = =
in april 2010 a writer asked me to convert 1.5 megabytes
of old word processor files to microsoft word for macintosh
i was handed five 360 KB, 5¼-inch Double Density disks
9 years of work (1986-1995) in 85 .WPS files
that were made using microsoft DOS-WORKS 2.0. word processor
= = = = = = = = = = = time i spent ; = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
2 days getting a desktop computer modified so that i can read 5¼ disks
4 hours finding software to do conversions = fail!
40 minutes copying files = never use windows for a dos project! EVER!
2 minutes reading the built in help file and running process = i miss dos!
= = = = = = his name was WORK_RTF.EXE,, his name was WORK_RTF.EXE = = = = =
so ,,, ! i looked for 4 hours to see if! :
an EXPENSIVE 500 megabyte microsoft program could do it
they deliberately stopped allowing this to force "upgrades" = fail!
a free 200 megabyte linux program could do this
MS patent restrictions on software that MS WONT sell us = fail!
whimpy whiny software co-dependancys from linux dorkizum = fail!
a dos converter (74 K Bytes) found on an "obsolite" programs site
in less than 2 minutes it did every one of files, error free= HELL YEAH!
= = = unnessisarily convoluted ? = = = =
so to recap,, the only program i could find that worked was :
usable in any windows or dos system (even in linux using dos-emu)
smaller than most of the files it was converting
able to take wild cards and convert an entire drive in 1 go
hidden on an obscure web dumping ground for old games as
an "outdated" program
oh MY GOD!!!!!!!!! i hate the computer industry !!!GAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!
Yes i am aware of the the controversy about gifs but
there is currently no decent animation format that will work in ALL browsers so you can see the friggin page graphics!!!
NO! i will not willy nilly use css java etc
Until The IBM U.S. patent conncerning gifs expired 11 August 2006 i was vulnerable to a law suit simply because my site needed an animated pic...
Next thing you know, microsoft will claim that all microsoft security error or bug reports are a
derivitive product of their patented software and for "copyright reasons" whistel blowers will be silenced
